We had an excellent weekend at school notwithstanding that the Club members were not allowed to park together and the Saturday dinner had been cancelled.
About fifteen members came to the buffet lunch in Quod, where Holly Fitzgerald welcomed everyone and this year’s President, Andy Pollock, gave an excellent talk to the assembled crowd about his time at Shrewsbury. He was keen to encourage OS to come to events at the school and that they should encourage others to do the same – something that I am always to support.
After lunch, we had our AGM in the upstairs room at the Moser Library. Attendance was down, with thirteen very enthusiastic people present and twenty-three apologies for absence.
On Saturday evening, nearly all SDC attendees had a most enjoyable supper together at Côte Brasserie in the Square. We had to do something to spend some time together, and Côte was absolutely fine for that purpose. I may turn out to be wrong, but I am very much hoping that the Saturday evening dinner at Kingsland Hall will be reinstated next year.
Sadly, there was no tour on Sunday as there were problems booking a table at the pub of our choice. All being well, however, we will have a good tour next year, particularly because it will be the 475th anniversary of the founding of the School.
In the absence of being able to park together on the Site, I took a photo of my car (see above) in front of the recently extended and improved Moss Gates (which had been funded by the Salopian Club).
Our final tour of the year is coming up this weekend. Nigel Edwards has organised a fantastic tour in Dorset for eight cars and fourteen people. Knowing him, he will write a report which you will be able to read very soon.
Our dinner on 5th February at the King’s Head in Bledington (near Stow-in-the-Wold) is shaping up well. Already 24 people have been in touch to say that they would like to come.
