Saturday 12th July saw SDC members gather by invitation of Dr Grant Charlesworth-Jones at SleapKosh – a private air show which attracted over 400 planes from across Europe and was hosted in Shropshire of all places! Having enjoyed the Shropshire Tour, Don Bradley brought errant school friend Dick France, who had a great day and has now also joined the SDC – this is a car club about people.
It was an informal day in the sweltering heat; the event, gathering international popularity and still exclusive to the public, was even bigger and better than the previous year. Angus Jagger and his partner, Tanya, teamed up with Brent Gibbons (who made it even in his Maserati) and his family, James and Juliet, as well as their comrade, Tom Pryce, to show others how to picnic. The SDC had a day mixing with planes and pilots, which was an experience beyond anyone’s imagination.
The event shall be next year at the same time, and after the success of this year’s picnic, the idea has been floated to do it bigger and better next year…
It is worth pointing out that the Salopian Drivers Club is a Club for Old Salopians as well as current Salopians and their parents. There is a huge mix of events from tours, museum visits, informal and formal get-togethers, vehicles both old and new, and value is of no importance: you don’t have to know your gearbox from your gasket to get along with others!
