Salopian Drivers Club Kent Tour

The last of this year’s SDC tours took place from last Sunday to Tuesday.

Things looked slightly problematic shortly before the tour began because its organiser, Miles Preston and his wife, Jane, tested positive for Covid that morning and another couple also had to opt out for Covid related reasons. This meant that the group taking part was reduced to eight when it had been planned for twelve.

The remaining group, consisting of Mark and Lisa Belcher, Simon and Julie Cullingworth, Martin and Anne Sandford and Paul and Cally de Fonseca Soares, set off on their adventure. This was fairly action packed, with visits to Sissinghurst, Bodiam Castle, Rye, Smallhythe Place, Chapel Down Winery, Pashley Manor Gardens and Bateman’s.

Food formed an integral part of the trip with meals at two excellent pubs, The Three Chimneys at Biddenden and The Ferry Inn near Appledore, and also the excellent B&B where the group stayed, Sissinghurst Farmhouse.

All in all, it worked out incredibly well and was enjoyed by all those who participated.

We are considering repeating the same tour next year (probably next June). Hopefully, Miles and Jane will be able to take part next time!
