The first SDC regional tour of 2022 has just ended, kick-starting a host of similar events around the UK. Held on Saturday, 14th May, it started, logically, in Shrewsbury at Alex Aldous’s home on the Longden Road. Bacon rolls, coffee and chat flowed, before 18 Old Salopians ventured through Church Stretton and to Ludlow on the A49. The twisty country road took the convoy through Tenbury Wells, towards Bromyard and into Great Malvern. Naturally, the Malverns are home to the legendary Morgan Motor Company, famed for its traditional materials, hand-built manufacturing techniques and snubbing Sir John Harvey Jones’s business advice. SDC members were shown around the production facilities, which focus on the new Super3 three-wheeler and the latest PlusFour and PlusSix models, as well as the museum
The tour route continued over the Malvern Hills and into Herefordshire. The Colwall Park Hotel was our lunch spot, situated just past the Downs Malvern prep school, at which former renowned Shrewsbury School Headmaster, Donald Wright (1963-1975) was a pupil. Once suitably refreshed, the group went their separate ways to enjoy a picturesque late afternoon drive home.
