Shropshire Tour – Pistyll Rhaeadr and Lake Vyrnwy – Saturday 15 June

10 cars and 19 people gathered for bacon rolls and coffee chez Aldous at ‘Fourways’ on
a morning that had started so well weather-wise, but was quick to disappoint as angry
clouds delivered their precipitation full-force! Nevertheless, we started off at 9.45am,
with the Pryces rather wisely delivering their DB6 back home at Nescliffe and swapping
it for a more congenial weather-proofed runner! The run to what is the highest waterfall
in Britain was beautiful and we remain undogged by the continuing rain and despite the
narrow road in the last five miles we arrived unscathed. A welcome coffee and cake
greeted us at the delightful indoor restaurant at the foot of the waterfall and recharged
us for even more spectacular landscape towards Lake Vrnwy.

The rain stopped as we arrived and we were joined by the Wycherleys, having said
goodbye to Nic Paterson and Malcolm Brewster. After drinks, 19 of us sat down to a
superb three-course lunch in our own private room overlooking the Lake where
conversation flowed in a great atmosphere, swapping places for the main course so all
could avail themselves of the spectacular view. The sun came out and we able to have
photos on the terrace after the meal and an excellent dry journey home. A great day out!
